Chasing worthlessness

Jeremiah 2:5 says,
“Thus says the LORD:
“What wrong did your fathers find in me that they
went far from me, and went after worthlessness,
and became worthless?”

. . .went after worthlessness and became worthless. . .

What do I chase after that is worthless?
Honestly? Everything.

Even “good” things like authentic friendships or ministry are worthless outside of the context of Yahweh. Ben Stuart said a similar thought at a conference earlier this year. He said, “What you think about is what you love and what you love is what you chase”. In all truthfulness my thoughts are rarely consumed by the Father. He’s there, yes, but rarely is He what I’m chasing.

I don’t know how many games of “chase” you’ve played recently, but, if it’s been awhile, let me refresh your memory. Chase is not something that is played lightly or halfway. It’s high energy, and to be successful, it’s purposeful. You chase with a purpose.

. . .went after worthlessness and became worthless. . .

Even “good” things are worthless things compared to the incomparable weight of glory of God. The immeasurable goodness that is Christ.  If I am to chase anything, it should be Christ. If I am to pursue anything, it should be Him.

All other things will leave me . . .worthless.
