Queso, tribes, and community

A few weeks ago, I found myself wondering what my life would be like if I lived somewhere else. I’ve lived in Dallas (or surrounding cities) for 10 years, and I love it, but I also love the beach. And mountains. And trees. And it’d be fun to try something new and different.
I even used the words, “I’m single. There’s nothing tying me here”. Which, is not untrue. I wouldn’t uproot anyone else’s life but mine if I were to pack up and move across the country.

But there are a lot of things tying me here. A lot of people that I consider my framily. People who have helped and continue to help shape my life. A lot of people I care deeply for. Sure, friends can be made all over the place, and maybe I’ll move to who knows where, but for now, I’m incredibly grateful for my tribe. Those people who happily share a bowl of queso (or two), those people whose names are at the top of my message inbox, and those people whom I get to walk through life beside.

Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art…. It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things which give value to survival. — C. S. Lewis
